Hello There, How Are You?
My name is Dave Black, and like many who rescue animals, I consider myself an artist who rescues stuff. My primary goal is to create beautiful and useful eco-friendly home decor by utilizing high-quality products and reusing and repurposing reclaimed materials instead of opting for new purchases. In the world we live in, I love to breathe life into interesting and useful items rather than wasting our valuable resources. I find unique materials wherever I go and dedicate the time necessary to refurbish these pieces, crafting unique sustainable art that I truly enjoy.
Throughout my life, I have worn many hats. As a builder and carpenter for over 30 years and an artist for just as long, I recently retired from 27 years of teaching Middle School. Now, I aspire to be a conscientious steward of our planet, creating purposeful and enjoyable pieces for everyone. This passion led me to launch my own business, which I proudly call Eco Eclectic Creations.
Creating original items that I can genuinely call my own has always been a joy. Each creation reflects my design or draws inspiration from various aspects of our world. Traveling to different countries has deepened my appreciation for the items that enrich our lives. Everything you will discover over time is truly one of a kind, crafted by my own hands using small tools. A body in motion stays in motion! The meticulous attention I give to each piece endows it with unique character. I like to name each piece and share its background, including where I sourced the materials, what they are made from, and my inspiration for their use.
My main focus is on reusing and repurposing high-quality materials. About 95% of my wood furniture projects utilize quality hardwoods like black walnut and various maple species, including rock and silver, as well as elm and birch. Occasionally, I also work with rare and valuable woods such as monkey pod, madrone, and parota.
As new items emerge, you'll notice that nothing ever looks the same. Expect to see an array of eco-friendly home decor options—like striking tables of varied sizes, sculptures, game tables, and lamps. I would love to help bring your ideas to life as well.
